Abdul Mati Klarwein was born in Hamburg on the 9th of April 1932, to a Jewish architect father from Polish origins, and a German opera singer mother. The three of them fled to Palestine when he was two years old after the rise of Nazi Germany.

“I am only half German and only half Jewish with an Arab soul and a African heart”

I have always been captivated by Mati’s work, sad the man passed away in 2002, his work is timeless and reminds me of Tokio, the friendly Japanese artist I’ve met a while back in Morioka, Japan.

Feeling this official video for “Glow” by Lunice. It’s the first track on Lunice’s “One Hunned” EP coming out today on Lucky Me. The video is directed by Adam Saewitz. Cop that!

Really feeling the concept of this stage, Igloo dome with a 360° visual performance. This was going down in Oudenaarde (small town in BE) at Feest In Het Park, by the lake. Must thank Wim for the opportunity and everyone involved as well as the driver who picked me up at the airport, DJ Serge!

Had a great time at the Stadtmusik Festival in Basel, Switzerland; with the great Livingroom.fm crew, Tom, Katjia, Pascal as well as Sassy J for the hospitality. I shared the stage with Robert Glasper Experiment and also participated to their live show, playing records for them to play over etc… The people were cool, the food was great, the weather was perfect… I loved it!

Eglo Records just dropped the (Queen) Fatima video “Mind”, taken from her EP. If you haven’t copped the EP, make sure you do as it’s a beautiful piece. Also, expect the launch of the official Eglo Records website soon.

Good to hang with this brother…

I won’t say I dig the whole project, it’s a rather disappointing album coming from two original creative monsters in the hiphop game but the single is at least what I expected from them. ”Watch The Throne” is out now!

Thank you for supporting the I Heart Japan Mix and Art Book. This project is a culmination of the creative endeavors of numerous visual artists and musicians from around the world.

These artists were so generous as to donate their artwork to help a community in need. The devastation that occured in Japan on March 11th, 2011, was heartbreaking, the whole world changed that day. However, the resilience, strength and beauty that has shown through the people is the most incredible testimony to the human spirit and it‘s devotion to healing.

None of the artists involved live in Japan, yet we all feel a strong connection to the culture and legacy of this country. We hope that this small token from our hearts can add in some way to the rebuilding and healing that is taking place.

From the United States, Belgium, Switzerland, United Kingdom and beyond we share our art united in our purpose to help make the world a better place.
Thank you for joining with us!

In love and unity,

UNITE

Tomorrow night I’ll be playing Basel in Switzerland for what is supposed to be a great festival in the area, the Stadtmusik Festival. If you’re from the area, come through. I’ll be on the turntables, other artists that night are Robert Glasper Experiment and Soul Sociedad.

Just got this EP from Presk called “Love Again” in the mailbox (Check the promo mix). It will see the light on september 5th through Ten Thousand Yen. A very good dance floor record I must say, sharp edged rhythmic dance music with a distinctly techno lean. I wish Pieter all the best with this one.

In the meantime you can buy his previous release on Fourth Wave:

Real Scenes” is a series of films by Resident Advisor, supported by and conceived withBench, in which they explore the musical, cultural and creative climate within electronic music’s key destinations. After Bristol, Resident Advisor went on a trip to the birthplace of Techno.

Detroit, the city’s DJs and producers birthed the genre. Detroit, however, has always had a creative streak, due in large part to the boom and subsequent bust of the auto industry. Quite simply, Detroit is a city of extremes, and its music reflects that. Detroit’s importance in the global electronic music scenes is often referred to in the past tense. With the recent emergence of Kyle Hall and other young Detroit producers, however, it’s clear that a spark remains. When we visited, we found a number of artists with their eyes (and ears) firmly set towards the future. After our time there, it’s clear that Detroit will endure and innovate for years to come.

Watch: Bristol
